Chapter Twenty-Two

Marcelo

I sit back on my legs and stare at Mirabella.

“You’re what?” I never asked if she was, but I damn well assumed I’d be the first to take her, given that she’s promised to me.

She sits up so her back rests on my headboard. “It’s so typical that you’d expect me to not have been with someone else. You didn’t see me assuming you were some wholesome virgin.” She rolls her eyes with disgust.

I run my hand over my head, pulling at my neck. This entire engagement hasn’t been typical, but I did not expect this. Sure, I suspected she and Lorenzo had fooled around a bit based on her behavior at the forest party, but she should be lying here ready to gift her virginity to me. Then again, it’s not our wedding night and I was willing to take her just the same. But that’s not the fucking point.

“Lorenzo?” I clarify. It infuriates me that she picked a stronzo like him to take what should’ve been mine.

She nods.

My fist clenches at my sides. I stand from the bed and rip off the condom. Talk about a complete mood killer.

“Would you rather I lie?”

A hollow laugh falls from my lips. “And how exactly would you do that?”

“There are ways to break a hymen other than a penis, Marcelo. I could’ve done it with a tampon or on a bike or something. Some women don’t bleed that much.” She says it with such derision, as though I’m a fucking idiot for not thinking of that.

I stop my pacing and turn to her. “So what? You want forgiveness because you were truthful?”

“I don’t need forgiveness—I’ve done nothing wrong! You know my feelings on this whole arrangement. You know I’m not the typical Mafia princess who’s going to fall to my knees for you.”

Isn’t that the truth. I’m dying for my dick to slide between those lips.

“I want our marriage to be equal. I proved myself in the War Games earlier today. I showed you my computer skills—”

“I hate to break it to you, but I can find a guy with just as good computer skills and it was just a race today.” She opens her mouth, but I raise my hand. “I’m not suggesting you did poorly, but it isn’t real life. You have no idea what it’s like to have someone die by your hands.”

She pulls on the blanket and covers herself. “Maybe I don’t but—”

I raise my hand because we’re getting way off track. That’s a conversation for another time. My dick is deflating, and the mood is dying like a fish flapping on the sand. “I can’t say I’m not disappointed that you’re not a virgin. I expected a fiancée who’d never been with another man. I don’t like it and Lorenzo better make sure to stay the fuck away from you now. Were you already promised to me when you slept with Lorenzo?”

“Not the first time we slept together, but yeah, I was with him a few times after my father told me I’d been promised to you.
